Legal and Ethical Rules

As a therapist, I have a legal and ethical duty to ensure that what a patient and I discuss remains confidential. In addition, both law and ethics require that I divulge the few circumstances under which there are exceptions to that confidentiality. 

 

First, suppose I have any reason to believe that a child, an elderly person, or a dependent adult is being abused, neglected, or financially exploited. In that case, I must disclose such information to appropriate agencies. Laws called “mandatory reporting statutes” leave me no room for discretion. In those situations, I must convey my concerns to the requisite authorities.  Secondly, I must break confidentiality when doing so is necessary to protect an individual’s physical safety.

 

 

Finally, certain legal proceedings or the Patriot Act of 2001 may require that I disclose otherwise confidential information. I will make every reasonable effort to disclose such information in such an event. I will also make every reasonable effort to discuss this matter with the patient first, as I prefer to make any such disclosures with my patient’s full knowledge.

 

 

I will consult with other health professionals when I determine that doing so would be helpful to the psychotherapeutic process. When speaking with mental health professionals, I will make every reasonable effort to disguise identifying information about a patient. Any professional with whom I speak is, like me, bound by confidentiality.  Each session is 45 minutes long, and the charge will be for 45 minutes. If need be for a longer session I will charge for the extra time. During my first session with Couples/family intake, I hold a 1 hour 40 min session, during which the payment will be accordingly. 

 

Payment

Cash, checks, Zelle, Venmo, and all major credit cards are accepted for payment.

Cancellation Policy

Payment is expected if you do not show up for your scheduled appointment and have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance. My practice is extremely busy, and each missed session can be used for another client.

Tuesday 9:00am-9:00pm

Wednesday: 9:00am-9:00pm

Thursday: 9:00am-9:00pm

Friday: 9:00am-6:00pm

Saturday & Sunday Appointments as needed
